ELUVEITIE clearly belongs to the fast growing Pagan Metal-scene, which has been producing such exciting new acts as Finntroll, Ensiferum, and Turisas. Although this subgenre is fairly new and exclusive, the band manages to stand out among the pack and give metal that shot of originality that it needs every few years. ELUVEITIE is quickly becoming one of today?s most exciting acts and leaders of a new movement, which has been capturing the imaginations of listeners worldwide. Quite simply, Slania is the sound of tomorrow mixed with the traditions of yesteryear.
Switzerland?s ELUVEITIE was originally formed by mastermind Chrigel Glanzmann in the Winter of 2002 as a mere studio-project. The first EP V?n was recorded in 2003, blending Folk music equally with heavy metal influences. This self-financed MCD was ardently received by the underground scene and press, selling out of its first pressing within a few months. In 2004, ELUVEITIE signed to the Dutch label Fear Dark Records, which released a re-mastered (and partly re-recorded) version of V?n. With a full line up in place they would continue as a ?real? band, playing gigs together with bands such as Cruachan, Korpiklaani and Skyforger.
Although many line-up changes would take place, ELUVEITIE grew into being a working band, and developed it's very own style. The genesis of their new sound can be accredited to the many different influences of the nine musicians who make up the group. In late 2005, ELUVEITIE was finally ready to enter the studio and record their first full-length album, Spirit, released yet again on Fear Dark Records. After the success of that album in the metal and folk scenes, the band signed a contract with German based metal label NUCLEAR BLAST.
The first result of this cooperation is the second full length offering of ELUVEITIE dubbed Salania. Brought to life by producer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Soilwork) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, this is one of the most important records of metal today! Musically it?s the perfection of Spirit, but there is still enough growth to give birth to some new sounds. With Slania, ELUVEITIE goes a step forward, presenting a completely new style to the Folk Metal scene; traditional, authentic Celtic Folk Music uniquely combined with modern styled Melodic Death Metal, strongly influenced by the classic ?G?thenburg Sound.? Nothing less than a modern day masterpiece of hellishly heavy folk metal!
